The 2022 Spring Newsletter has Arrived!
Our newsletter for the semester aims to inform folks about our new Sociology and Anthropology professors, our upcoming events in our Les Howard Series and also showcase our professor’s new research projects. We also aim to acknowledge some of our students and all the hard work they have accomplished thus far.
Professor Rebecca Overmyer-Velasquez is appointed the C. Wright Mills Chair and is Showcased on Univison
Professor of Sociology Rebecca Overmyer Velázquez was appointed C. Wright Mills Chair in Sociology for 2021-2022. Becky’s activism focuses on actively engaging community members to strive for social justice and demand change.
Becky is currently working with the Coalition for Clean Air of Northern Whittier and Avocado Heights to bring awareness about environmental hazards. One of their current campaigns is fighting to stop Quemetco, Inc from bringing in more hazardous waste and increasing their truck traffic, which affects air pollution. She was recently featured on Univision to speak about Quemetco, Inc, pollution, and health. You can see the video following the link
