Ground Truthing California

Ground Truthing California was created by Professor Rebecca Overmyer-Velazquez and Elvira De La Torre ’20, a Sociology major student. They developed the bilingual (English and Spanish) website because they witness how Latinx communities in the Los Angeles County had disproportionate exposures to environmental toxins. The website combines reliable and publicly available online resources to test water, soil, and air pollution. It also includes key organizations fighting for environmental justice, laws and legislations related to the environment, and politicians advocating for justice.  The goal was to have students and community residents utilize the website to advocate for themselves to demand for environmental justice.
